School Shootings
Virginia Tech, Northern Illinois University, these recent shootings have caused a wave of fear in American schools. In my opinion, shootings have not necessarily increased, but that they have become more prevelant in the news. Its always so tragic to hear about these kind of things, to see what the families of the victims go through.
Personally, I fell no less safe in my school environment than I did before shootings had taken over the news. If you look, most of these shootings went on in very large schools, where the students were under a lot of pressure. I think that having any class over 60 students is outragous, people need more individual attention. I think this might have been the cause of some of these shootings. Most of the time, the shooter felt unimportant,not needed, un wanted. I mean, just look at the tapes from the Virginia Tech shooter, this kid was obviously lacking in self worth.
I find it such a terrible thing, for one human to take the life of another without even being provoked. Some say it is something uniquely human, but there have been recent discoveries that primates are a lot more like us than previously thought. There have been several documented cases of unprevoked attacks between gorrillas. It has not yet been concluded if this is something just not previously studied, or a new development in primate society.
