Celebrities.....oh my goodness
So, I wake up, gravitate to my computer screen, naturally, and whats the first thing I see? HEATH LEDGER IS DEAD! Now this is even before the headline about the United States' economic trouble. Is this really something I need to know? I don't think so. What about all of the impoverished people in the world, shouldn't I be reading about them instead? Instead, I am reading about some guy, and in truth he really is just 'some guy' (sure he played a gay cowboy, but lets think about the real gay cowboys, a story about them would intrest me much more), and trying to figure out who he is. After I look his name up on my beloved wikipedia, I sit there wondering, "why should I care?". I am sick of hearing about celebrities, just because they are good at one thing, it seems like the entire world revolves around them.
Is this kind of thing really newsworthy? To me, no. To the rest of the world, it appears so. After all, the media only reports on things the people want to hear. After 9/11 you didn't hear many stories about the people who died, the one with no families to mourn for them. You heard about the narrow escapes, the heroic acts, the feel-good stories. And what do Americans like more than fatty foods, guns, and money? Yes, you guessed it, drama. Our famous actors are well qualified to provide us with all the drama we care for, and more. I think it is sad that we have come to this, I mean, if Jesus were caught with a pound of coke in his car, or his final will and testament were found, I'd be interested. I'd rather not know who Anna Nichole's 'baby-daddy' is, or even how Heath Ledger died, why don't we try a solve a twenty year old murder instead?
Until next time, goodnight :)
